Fortis Leadership Lab: Bridging Talent and Collaboration
November 6, 2024
The Fortis Leadership Lab, launched in 2021, prepares emerging leaders for long-term careers in the energy sector while giving Fortis leadership clear visibility into the talent pipeline.
This innovative internal leadership development program aims to build networks and support mobility across Fortis' 10 regulated utilities in Canada, the U.S., and the Caribbean. It enhances the business acumen of the next generation of Fortis leaders.
"Great things happen when we bring our talented people together from across our diverse businesses," said David Hutchens, President and CEO of Fortis Inc. "The Fortis Leadership Lab is a prime example of fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, continuous learning, and improvement."
Last month, 26 participants from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and business areas within the company presented their work to executives and graduated from the year-long program.
Participants were mentored by executives and collaborated in capstone teams to address real-life challenges faced by Fortis companies. The teams tackled issues such as building resilient supply chains for a cleaner energy future, developing centers of excellence, leveraging generative AI for smarter work, and exploring effective customer engagement strategies.
The program allowed Lab participants to make connections and build relationships across the group of companies while enhancing their business acumen and leadership skills.
"Leadership Lab was an exceptional experience," said Megan Garvey, a 2024 Lab participant and Senior Director of Environmental Services and Sustainability at Tucson Electric Power. "I leave the program with gratitude, a sense of accomplishment, a deeper understanding of the organization, inspiration to drive our collective success, and new, treasured relationships."
More than 40 percent of Leadership Lab participants have received promotions since completing the program.
